Hello, everyone. My name is Mark and I was obese. How do I know? My doctor told me so. I am 5’10″ tall and weighed 259 lbs in July of 2010. I was in need of a lifestyle change and a way to keep the weight off that would help me get my life back on track. I was limping as there was stress on my knee from my weight, a torn meniscus, and arthritis. I also have GERD so sleeping lying down was out of the question and I have a history of transient ischemic attacks (TIA) or also known as mini strokes.
Well, I was in great health as you can tell. I was eating great. McDonald’s, Wendy’s, KFC, and anywhere else they had a dollar menu or deep fat fried food and a drive up window.
Well, I turned to the internet and did a Google search. I placed “diet,” “diet help,” “keep weight off,” and “lifestyle change” in the search engine and I start reading. There is a whole lot of stuff out there so I waded through it and I learned a lot. The first thing I learned was that most ” experts ” don’t agree on a lot of things when it comes to weight loss.
So, I am going to thank my mother and father now, for giving me some common sense. I read the dummies books which are actually very good and informative. I finally learned enough to start my change. How did I do it?
1. Set Goals.
Long-Term Goals – 6 months
Short-Term Goals – 1 week
2. Eat Proper Foods.
White Meats
Fruits
Vegetables
3. Start Exercise Program.
Walking
4. Drink Water.
8 – 10 cups of water a day (8-oz)
5. Portion Control.
4-8 oz Meats
Lots of Vegetables
6. Snacks.
Fruits
Vegetables (carrots, celery, radishes)
Gum – 5-calorie
7. STOP BAD HABITS.
Drinking Diet and Regular Soda
Snacking on bad foods. You know what I mean.
I was able to get my brain into the correct mindset. I am going to lose weight and I am going to hit my goals and I did. My weight loss slowed down after a few weeks but I was still losing weight. Now I am at 204 lbs and I am feeling so much better. No more limping and I am no longer taking the pills for my gerd.
